Injectables

If you’re following the latest trends in aesthetic treatments, you’ve probably heard of injectables.  Injectables are a surgery-free way to help you achieve a more youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles and lines, softening facial creases, and improving the contour of your face.

But what exactly are injectables? How do they work? And are they safe? Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about injectables.

Some of the injectables offered by Be You Medical include:

Lip Filler

Lip fillers add volume and definition to plump lips, restore the borders of the lip, and even out asymmetry.

Cheek Filler

Cheek filler helps to restore volume loss in the cheek area, giving back curves and contour to the mid-face.

Facial Filler

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used in most areas of the face to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, restore volume loss and return lost curves and contours.

Under-Eye Filler

Under-eye fillers treat the hollowing that can occur under the eyes as we age.

Sculptra

Sculptra is a bio-stimulator that helps your body produce collagen. It can add volume to the face, correct facial wrinkles, and soften facial creases and folds, such as the nasolabial folds, temples, and cheeks.

Kybella

Kybella is an injectable that kills fat cells. Most commonly used to improve the appearance of the double chin but can also be used to treat small pockets of fat on the body, like bra fat.

Asclera

Asclera is an injectable treatment that can be used to improve the appearance of spider veins on the legs.

Types of Injectables

There are two main injectables: neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Neuromodulators, such as Botox and Dysport, are injected into the muscles of the face to temporarily reduce muscle activity. This relaxes the muscles, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles caused by muscle contraction, such as forehead lines and the lines between your eyebrows. On the other hand, dermal fillers are injected into the soft tissue of the face to add volume and diminish wrinkles and creases. Popular types of dermal fillers include Juvederm and Restylane.

How do injectables work?

Neuromodulators block nerve signals to the muscles, preventing them from contracting. The relaxation of the muscles leads to a reduction in wrinkles. Dermal fillers work by adding a soft gel of hyaluronic acid to restore volume to the soft tissue of the face. This helps to fill in wrinkles and creases and improve the contour of your face.

Are injectables safe?

Injectables are generally safe for most people; however, some risks are involved with any medical procedure. Possible side effects of injectables include bruising, swelling, redness, pain, and tenderness at the injection site. These side effects are usually considered mild and resolve within a few days. More serious side effects are rare but can include infection, allergic reactions, headaches, drooping eyelids, and vision problems. Be sure to consult a medical professional before any injectable treatment to ensure it’s the right one for you.

Cosmetic Injectables Are Not Just for Women

While most injectable cosmetic patients are women, more men seek treatment. In fact, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of men receiving cosmetic injectables has increased by more than 250% in the past five years.

Cosmetic Injectables are Not Permanent

One of the biggest misconceptions about cosmetic injectables is that they are permanent. However, this is not the case. Most types of cosmetic injectables will only last for a few months before they need to be reapplied.

Cosmetic Injectables Can be Used to Treat Various Medical Conditions

While typically associated with reducing wrinkles and fine lines, Botox can also treat other conditions such as migraines, excessive sweating, and lazy eye syndrome.

Some Risks Involved with Cosmetic Injectables

As with any medical procedure, there are some risks involved with cosmetic injectables. Although rare, the most common side effects include bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection site; however, more serious complications, such as blindness and paralysis, have been reported in rare cases.

Cosmetic Injectables are Not Painless

While the needles used for cosmetic injectables are much smaller than those used for traditional injections, they can still cause discomfort. However, most patients report that the discomfort is minimal and brief.

You Should Consult with a Trained Professional

You must consult a trained professional before getting any cosmetic injection. This way, you can learn about your options and make sure you’re choosing the best possible treatment plan for your needs.

Injectables are a popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatment option for those looking to reduce wrinkles or improve their facial contour. Two main types of injectables, neuromodulators and dermal fillers, work in different ways to achieve these results. In general, injectables are safe for most people; however, there are some risks involved that should be considered before undergoing treatment. Consult with a medical professional to learn more about injectables and whether they are right for you.
