PRX-PLUS
Firmer, Brighter Skin With No Needles, No Peeling, No Downtime
Frequently Asked Questions
What Is PRX-PLUS?
PRX-PLUS is a topical biostimulator. It's a professional treatment applied to the surface of your skin that works in the deeper layer to stimulate collagen and elastin production. It is developed in Italy and performed in-office by our nursing team. It's not an injectable, and it's not a traditional chemical peel.
How Does PRX-PLUS Work?
The solution is applied to your skin and massaged in section by section. It travels past the surface layer without disrupting it, reaching the deeper layer where your collagen lives, and stimulates the cells there to produce new collagen and elastin.
That's the difference between PRX-PLUS and a conventional peel. A peel works by removing the surface of your skin, which is why peels come with flaking and recovery time. PRX-PLUS leaves your surface intact and does its work underneath.
What Skin Concerns Can PRX-PLUS Treat?
PRX-PLUS is designed to improve the overall quality of your skin, including:
- Dull, tired-looking skin
- Crepey texture
- Fine lines
- Loss of firmness
- Overall glow and radiance
If your main concern is volume loss or deep lines from facial movement, a different treatment is likely a better fit.
What Areas Can Be Treated with PRX-PLUS?
We treat the face, neck, and chest. The neck and chest are treated more gently than the face, because the skin there is thinner and more delicate.
Is There Any Downtime to PRX-PLUS?
Virtually none. Your skin may feel slightly tight and look a little pink right after treatment, and that settles quickly. Some patients, particularly those with drier or thicker skin, notice light flaking in the first few days after their first session. It usually lasts two to three days and moisturizing more often takes care of it. It is a normal part of the process.
You won't have the significant peeling, redness, and recovery of a traditional chemical peel or a resurfacing laser. Most patients go straight back to work, and you can wear makeup the same day.
Does PRX-PLUS Hurt?
Most patients feel a mild warming or tingling while the product is being applied. No numbing is needed, and there is no sedation. You can drive yourself home and go about your day.
How Many Treatments Will I Need for PRX-PLUS?
PRX-PLUS is designed as a series, spaced about two weeks apart until you get desired results.
You will usually notice brighter, smoother, plumper-looking skin within a few days of your very first treatment. The lasting improvements in texture and firmness build across the full series and continue developing afterward as your skin produces new collagen.
Can I Add PRX-PLUS to My Botox or Filler Appointment?
Yes, and it's one of the most popular ways our patients do it. PRX-PLUS is always performed first, before your injections, and it fits within your existing appointment time. Learn about Botox.
Can PRX-PLUS Be Done Year-Round?
Yes. Unlike many peels and laser treatments, PRX-PLUS can be performed any time of year, including summer. Daily sunscreen is still required.
Am I a Good Candidate for PRX-PLUS?
PRX-PLUS is a great fit if your skin looks tired, dull, or crepey, if you want collagen stimulation but are not ready for a laser or an injectable treatment, or if you want to maintain your skin between more intensive treatments. It is also a favorite before weddings and events.
It is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an allergy to any of the ingredients, or have an active skin infection, broken skin, or an active flare of a skin condition in the treatment area. If you have a history of cold sores, let us know. We may prescribe a preventive medication first.
How Should I Prepare, and What Happens Afterward?
Stop retinol, Vitamin C, acids, and other active skincare about a week before your appointment, and avoid sun exposure, tanning, hair removal, and other facial treatments in the weeks beforehand.
Afterward, avoid heat for 48 hours (no saunas, steam, hot tubs, hot showers, or hard workouts). Moisturize consistently and wear sunscreen daily. During your series we will ask you to pause your other skincare products and use only what we recommend, plus a gentle cleanser and SPF. Your home care matters here, as it's part of how the treatment works.
